Alvaro Soler’s “Magia”: A New Summer Anthem

The acclaimed Spanish singer-songwriter Alvaro Soler is back with a fresh single, “Magia,” poised to become the summer’s defining hit. This vibrant yet wistful track, released on July 9th alongside his new album of the same name, reflects Soler’s personal journey during the pandemic. The artist, known for chart-topping hits like “El Mismo Sol” and “Sofia,” has achieved remarkable global success, amassing over 4 billion streams and selling more than 2 million albums worldwide. This new work stems from a period of introspection for the artist. Soler, while serving as a judge on the German talent show “The Voice Kids,” explained: “In five years I hadn’t stopped for a moment, and I needed to reflect on what had happened, to be with my family, and to rediscover that passion for music that I had somewhat lost. I wanted to experiment with new things, write not just about hotels and airplanes, but about more personal experiences. I wanted to feel free, even free from the pressure to create a guaranteed hit. The result was incredibly productive: I created around forty songs.” He drew inspiration from the simple things, the small miracles of everyday life. “After a year of Covid, you have two choices: to remain negative or to seek magic in the small things around us, things we need to learn to see, like hugging our parents or a beautiful sunset. Creativity persists even during a pandemic. Beyond the worries—he concludes—I perceived a solidarity among strangers that I’d never witnessed before, and the desire to reunite people with my music reawakened within me.
