Campania’s Collective Musical Response to Crisis

A collaborative initiative, “Artists United for Campania,” has rallied singers, musicians, and technicians across the Campania region. Conceived by Alessandro Romano, this ambitious undertaking unites diverse voices and sounds in a single song, with each artist contributing their performance from their own home. The project aims to foster unity, instill hope, and encourage support for those in need. “Domani,” the song chosen for this endeavor, echoes the spirit of a similar project, “Artists United for Abruzzo,” which provided aid following the 2009 earthquake. This time, the focus is on providing aid to southern Italy, with a particular emphasis on the Campania region. The compilation involved a monumental task: merging 100 audio and 150 video clips, expertly blended by video editor Francesco Petrone and sound designer Luca Munaretto, who skillfully transformed the “home-recorded” material. The project utilizes the GOFOUNDME platform to raise funds for vital medical supplies, specifically benefiting the “San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi d’Aragona” hospital system, encompassing the “Ruggi” and “Da Procida” facilities in Salerno, along with hospitals in Mercato San Severino, Castiglione di Ravello, and Cava de’ Tirreni. Participating artists include Alessandro Romano, Luca Munaretto, Valentina Iannone, Ernesto Borruto, Enzo Costa, Paola Forleo, Vincenzo La Mura, Giacomo Mercaldo, Aldo Prisco, Roberto Senatore, Mauro Tummolo, Kristina Vicinanza, and the notable group Villa Perbene. Support was also given by Claudia Vietri (piano), Giovanna Naddeo (violin), Fabio Altobello (trumpet), Francesco Petrone (video editing), Francesca Trotta (graphics), and Lira TV (television broadcast). The project expresses a message of hope and solidarity: “We hope to have kindled a spark of hope, brought a smile to your face, and conveyed that TOGETHER WE WILL RISE AGAIN, because WE ARE NOT ALONE!” Finally, the project extends heartfelt gratitude to all those on the frontlines of this ongoing silent struggle.
